Renowned visionary, educationist and the best known professor of Chemistry for IIT-JEE preparation in India, Shishir Mittal has been one of the key persons behind Kota's rise to national fame in the coaching industry. He is the founder head of Insight.
During his twelve years of chemistry teaching at Kota, most of the teaching trends and methodologies in Kota have emerged from his very original approach towards the subject. Academic standards set by him are yet unparalleled, with most of the Chemistry people (students and teachers alike) referring constantly to his notes and study material for guidance. |
As a Chemistry expert, he has introduced a number of innovations to chemistry teaching. For the first time in IIT-JEE coaching, he transported a full fledged Chemistry lab in his classroom to provoke interest amongst the students for Inorganic Chemistry. He discovered an entirely new approach towards studying and teaching Inorganic Chemistry and predicting Inorganic Reactions, which were otherwise supposed to be memory based and cumbersome. This feature has been exceptionally popular with the students, specially IIT-JEE top-ten.
His Memory Cards and Wallpapers are extremely useful Organic Chemistry tools, but his most useful contribution has been systematic classification of General Organic Chemistry portion and formulation of a 'Guided Learning Approach' towards learning GOC, mechanisms and stereochemistry. Powered by a multimedia projector, mechanisms come alive in his masterly lectures.
Systematic classification of mole concept, gaseous state and redox titrations has been his key contribution towards the pedagogy of General Chemistry. He discovered a new method towards balancing chemical equations (sometimes now referred to as 'Shishir's Method').
And he is simply unparalleled when it comes to Physical Chemistry. Evolution of each topic through extremely well graded examples can raise the student from a bare introductory level to the highest point in numerical chemistry. Complex formulation of intricate problems, simple but incisive problem-solving techniques and inspiring lectures which can catapult a student to the zenith of his preparation have been his forte which are yet unparalleled in IIT-JEE circles.
As an educationist, he has a number of feathers in his cap. He identified that many students waste one additional year while 'repeating' for IIT-JEE. For the first time in India in 2004, he introduced 'Nurture Program' and expanded the IIT-JEE coaching to three and four year preparation, thereby reducing the academic burden on the students and ensuring better success rates.
His keen insight in learning and testing systems may be understood from the fact that the 'Comprehension Based Questions', introduced by him for the first time in Nurture Program and Selection Guarantee Program in 2004 later appeared in new pattern IIT-JEE 2005. He took IIT-JEE circles by storm by introducing unique 'Selection Guarantee Program' which is yet unmatched in the country. He has envisioned and guided the development and implementation of Insight's Internet based test system and Insight's unique Systematic Revision Package.
His vision does not stop here. He says, "The goal of my life is a thorough and complete revamping of Indian Education system, where students can meet their personal, social and national goals with optimal efficiency and lead a happy and enriched life, free of inner conflicts and dedicated to evolution."
Today, Kota is known for IIT-JEE coaching. He is one of the pillars on which the fame of Kota rests. |

Successful problem solving technique requires flexibility and imagination on the part of student. Commonly these skills are developed by observation of examples and intense practice, both of which I aim to provide through thought- provoking lecture sessions."
A perfectionist, he can hardly tolerate even a minor error. He is a living example of boundless commitment to teach with excellence and to see his students succeed.
Today, He is nationally renowned for developing and implementing the effective teaching and learning methodologies to get the maximum output in competitive examinations. As a career author and counsellor, he writes for various publications, leading news dailies and conducts seminars & workshops for academic upgradation and evolution.
